Conference Facilitation

An interactive role that adds a new process to the
conference event.

Understanding of the world is constantly moving on as it is envisioned, enacted and reviewed by the people who live in it. Gatherings such as conferences are a centre point in the evolution of any groups collective knowing and acting. A storyteller's role is to reveal the conferences story by enhancing the process and reflecting to the participants something of their collective understandings and concerns. It is interactive, experiential, enjoyable, inclusive and thought provoking.

A conference is a place where shared meanings are explored, boundaries challenged, diversity is recognised, visions clarified and community and outcomes celebrated.

Options include:

  • building the conference community
  • facilitating the conference themes and issues
  • reflecting the collective and often invisible thoughts and feelings
  • celebrating the process, the people and the outcomes

The approach is based on experiential learning, psycho-dynamic and socio-dramatic practices and plain intuition. It evolves through the event. Ideally the process requires a time slot each day of the event and at least two significant interactive opportunities. It works with groups of any size provided they can all get into an open space together.
